3Fifteen Still Fighting to Get Dispensaries Back from Skymint – Green Market Report

The fight isn’t over for Michigan cannabis operator 3Fifteen Cannabis, which was supposed to have been acquired by financially troubled Skymint.

Then Skymint became mired in its financial problems, and the owners of 3Fifteen sought to terminate the deal and have their assets returned to them. But even though Skymint hadn’t actually paid for the acquisition, a judge told 3Fifteen no.

Mitch Baruchowitz of Merida Capital, an investor in 3Fifteen, told Green Market Report that his group’s appeal of the judge’s initial decision against them has now been granted. Because of that, that the receivership status is now frozen for four months and on hold until 3 Fifteen’s appeal can be heard, he said.

Background

In September 2021. Skymint agreed to acquire 3Fifteen, which ha 12 dispensaries in Michigan. That deal would have given Skymint a dominant role in the state’s new adult-use market.

In April 2022, Skymint announced it had closed on the deal with 3Fifteen, and Skymint appointed Baruchowitz to the company’s board of directors.

Less than a year later however, Skymint was drowning in debt and burning through $3 million in cash per month. The company couldn’t declare bankruptcy because of the federal illegality of cannabis, and instead

Why Shangri-La was the only applicant for Minnehaha County marijuana dispensary license – Dakota News Now

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Two years ago, 21 business owners filed a total of 79 applications to attain one of five medical marijuana dispensary licenses in the city of Sioux Falls.

A ping pong ball lottery at city hall determined which five businesses would garner the coveted licenses. A packed room watched in palpable anticipation. One of the “winners” yelped in jubilant glee.

“I still can’t believe it,” East River Farms LLC co-founder Josh Winter said after the event, laughing and smiling. “I’m high — on excitement.”

Winter admitted part of that elation came from the possible windfall from operating one of the city’s first places medical patients could access legal cannabis.

Two years later, the one dispensary license for Minnehaha County was up for grabs. Over the course of a month, only one group applied.

Shangri-La LLC — a multi-state operation based out of Missouri that already has a cultivation center in Brandon where marijuana buds are grown and then sold to local dispensaries — has signed up to set up its own shop in the Pyro Fireworks facility on East Arrowhead Parkway on the far east side of Sioux Falls, just outside the city limits. The company is waiting for

Six of NY’s Registered Medical Weed Companies Receive Adult-Use Licensing Powers – ourtownny.com

New York’s Cannabis Control Board allowed six of the state’s ten “registered” medical marijuana companies to enter the adult-use market on December 8, meaning that established players in the NY cannabis industry may soon bring more legal recreational-use stores to Manhattan. The Office of Cannabis Management, the board’s parent agency, hailed the move.

The medical marijuana companies granted adult-use privileges include: Columbia Care NY, Curaleaf NY, Etain, NYCanna, PharmaCann of New York, and Valley Agriceuticals.

“The approval of medical cannabis operators (registered organizations) to participate in both the medical and adult-use markets highlights their commitment to serve patients and consumers across New York. Furthermore, as we prepare for new adult-use dispensary licensing, we look forward to store openings across the state,” CCB Chairwoman Tremaine Wright said.

It seems none of the medical companies will open adult-use stores in the borough yet, with CCB Wright indicating that 5 of the 6 companies would locate them elsewhere. The new shops will open on December 29.

So far, only one location has been approved per company statewide, although they may apply for up to three licenses. At least some of the license awardees seem to have medical dispensaries in Manhattan, which could end

Facebook Messenger Helps Bust Colorado Crime Rings – Westword

Facebook messages and braggadocio social media posts helped take down two separate crime rings accused of using stolen vehicles and weapons to burglarize dozens of businesses, including firearms dealers and over forty marijuana dispensaries.

According to federal agencies and local law enforcement authorities in Aurora, Denver and Thornton, two different investigations led to the arrest last week of 23 individuals on charges ranging from aggravated robbery to kidnapping. One of the cases, dubbed Operation Say Less, resulted in the arrests of fourteen people, while an unrelated grand jury indictment charged nine others with similar crimes.

In both cases, however, suspects used Facebook Messenger to coordinate operations and sell stolen items, while some of the arrested individuals posted messages regarding large amounts of cash and guns shortly after robberies took place.

Documents from the Denver District Attorney outline a series of sprees that snowball from one crime into another. Stolen vehicles were driven to pawn shops and dispensaries, which were then broken into and burglarized. Stolen products such as retail marijuana and firearms were then sold or used to further more criminal action.

Your Turn: feedback on prison sentences & marijuana dispensary – WWNY

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – An Ogdensburg man who left his infant daughter in a bathtub while he slept in another room pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter. Trevor Samarco faces two to six years in prison when he’s sentenced:

2-6 years? Anything less than 20 years is a crime. The New York state justice system is broken.

Michael Paul Diesel

I swear there is absolutely no justice for little kids who are abused, killed, or neglected by their parents. It’s like NY sees them as disposable.

Billy Sandi Tuttle

A Potsdam man convicted of stealing an ambulance, which he then totaled, was sentenced last week to four to 12 years in prison:

How does this guy get 4-12 years for stealing an ambulance but the guy who put a baby in the bathtub and then took a nap while it drowned gets 2-6?

James Kroeger

Not defending any of them but probably because one was intentional and one seems to have been unintentional.

Angela Jean

The owners of a Potsdam store opened the doors of the first state-regulated marijuana dispensary in St. Lawrence County:

Took long enough.

Melisa De Jesus

Oh, great. Just what we need.
