Adams Vows New Crackdown On Landlords Of Illegal Dispensaries As State Reaches Deal To Issue New Licenses – Bisnow

Bisnow/Ciara Long

As New York City’s legal cannabis market has been a slow, grinding process, a gray retail cannabis market has proliferated throughout the city.

Relief has arrived for licensed cannabis dispensaries months after an injunction stopped hopeful New York marijuana retailers in their tracks and Mayor Eric Adams launched renewed efforts to take down illegally operating weed shops.

Settlements have been reached for two lawsuits that had brought the state’s legal cannabis industry to a standstill, Green Market Report first reported. The deals, approved by the state’s Cannabis Control Board, would allow the state to continue issuing Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary licenses if it is approved by the Albany County judge who blocked the program.

The suits, both of which were brought in August by plaintiff Carmine Fiore, sought to challenge how the Office of Cannabis Management had designed the licensing process.

While the state’s cannabis retail laws allow the OCM to prioritize licenses for social equity candidates, the plaintiffs, which included disabled veterans, argued that there was no legal basis for prioritizing people who had been affected by prior marijuana charges over other types of social equity candidates. A state judge agreed and imposed an injunction in August,

NY weed legalization: new dispensaries to open after settlement deal – The Journal News

New Yorkers should expect hundreds of new marijuana dispensaries to open in coming months after regulators on Monday approved a settlement deal that seeks to end a high-profile lawsuit that temporarily derailed the state’s cannabis industry.

Under the proposed settlement, a group of four military service-disabled veterans will receive marijuana dispensary licenses and other legal protections intended to smooth their path to opening adult-use cannabis businesses, court records show.

Now, a judge will consider approving the settlement, which would end the veterans’ lawsuit that claimed state regulators unjustly awarded initial dispensary licenses exclusively to businesses impacted by prior marijuana convictions. State officials did not admit to any wrongdoing under the settlement, which was approved by the state Cannabis Control Board during an emergency meeting.

St. Henry bans retail, medical cannabis dispensaries – The Daily Standard

Tuesday, November 28th, 2023

By Abigail Miller

ST. HENRY – Village councilors on Monday evening unanimously voted to prohibit cannabis retail and medical marijuana dispensaries in St. Henry.

Councilors passed the ordinance as an emergency measure after suspending the rules requiring three public readings.

Per ordinance language, adult use cannabis operations and medical marijuana cultivators, processors and retail dispensaries within the corporation limits will be prohibited starting Jan. 1.

Mayor Steve Koesters said the legislation is similar to a previous ordinance prohibiting medical marijuana dispensaries, with modifications.

As of the Nov. 7 general election, Ohio is the 24th state to legalize adult-use sale, purchase and possession of marijuana for citizens 21 and older.

The voter-driven initiative allows adults to possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis and 15 grams (about a half-ounce) of extract, and to grow up to six plants per individual through a government program.

It allows municipalities the option to prohibit dispensaries within corporation limits.

St. Henry Police Chief Michael Link said though councilors are banning dispensaries, they are not banning marijuana usage.

“We’re banning the selling of it in our neighborhoods, especially since we’re a small community and everything is close to the school,”

Bath midwifery site of Maine’s third human milk bank – Press Herald

Soft Corner Midwifery in Bath recently announced the opening of the third outpatient donor milk dispensary in Maine in partnership with Mothers’ Milk Bank Northeast.

A donor milk dispensary is a community location where a family whose baby has a prescription can obtain donor milk for use at home. Currently, babies at many Maine hospitals can receive donor milk while in the hospital; in the community setting, if a baby needs donor milk, a dispensary is a convenient and important local option. Dispensaries make human milk easier to access while the maternal milk supply is developing. Mothers’ Milk Bank Northeast supplies the human milk by collecting it from parents who have more milk than their babies need.

By opening a donor milk dispensary, Soft Corner Midwifery is on the leading edge of organizations providing access to donor milk in the community, the midwifery said in a prepared release. When a baby requires supplementation in the early days after birth, research shows that families tend to view donor milk as a temporary bridge and formula as a long-term solution. Having donor milk available at community locations like a dispensary can be an essential component in improving human milk feeding rates for
