Lack of supply is a growing concern for some cannabis dispensaries in Minnesota – CBS News

SAINT PAUL — Retail sales for Minnesota’s legal recreational cannabis market are tracked for early next year. But some activists who sought to change the law and others who want to cash in on cannabis worry that there won’t be enough supply to meet high demand unless state regulators allow for early cultivation.

The process— from establishing a growing facility, to planting seeds and then finally to store shelves for sale— can take up to a year, said Jason Tarasek, an attorney specializing in cannabis at Vicente LLP. Right now, businesses would need to get a state license in order to get off the ground and the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management is in the midst of setting rules for implementation, which could take awhile.

The fear from prospective business owners is that waiting until that process is complete will add further delays to the market launching.

“I’ve had concerns that we’re going to be a bit behind,” Tarasek said. “So if we wait until rulemaking is finished to get plants in the ground, that’s probably going to be first quarter second quarter 2025. Then we’re looking at a market launch in 2026, potentially.”

Napa cannabis dispensary opens; city’s ninth – Napa Valley Register

SPARC, a chain of retail cannabis shops, announced the launch of its newest space off Soscol Avenue — which will make it Napa’s ninth dispensary when it officially opens its doors Saturday.

The decision to open on April 20 — 4/20 — was intended to latch onto “the ultimate cannabis holiday,” the company said in a news release, announcing a series of sales on opening day and throughout the month.

According to its website, SPARC opened its first store in 2010 as the San Francisco Patient and Resource Center, providing medical marijuana prior to adult-use legalization in California in 2016. The company has five additional locations in Sonoma County and San Francisco.

“We’re thrilled to bring SPARC’s elevated retail experience to Napa Valley,” Erich Pearson, the company’s CEO and founder, said in a statement. “Our goal is to create a space where customers can explore and discover cannabis products in a relaxed and comfortable setting …”

Green wave of economic growth in Michigan from marijuana dispensaries – ABC 57 News

NILES, Mich. — Tomorrow is April 20. That date may mean nothing to you, but it’s a taboo holiday dating back to the 1970s, a kind of homage to the “best time to smoke marijuana”.

While Michigan entered its fifth year of legal pot, marijuana dispensaries are not the only ones getting some green on this unofficial holiday.

4/20 has sparked a new age of marketing munchies, even here in Michiana.

Pot dispensaries in Michigan see sales getting higher, with many customers coming from out-of-state.

Since Michigan first legalized marijuana use in December 2018, pot sales continue to increase, as explained by Katie Lynch Lindgren, Brand Manager for Green Stem Dispensary in Niles.

“For the last four years, what we have seen is each 4/20 growing. It was a cultural holiday within the cannabis industry for a long time, something that was celebrated like a holiday. With recreation and stores starting to open, it became more of a Black Friday, if you will, of retail, but for weed.”

Partakers in the 4/20 holiday are coming to Michigan from numerous nearby states that have not legalized recreational marijuana, including Indiana, Wisconsin, and Kentucky.

According to Andrea Kelly, a Floor Manager at ReLeaf,

Why it’s not a happy 420 for many California cannabis dispensaries – The Press-Enterprise

In cannabis culture, 420 — April 20 — is a day to celebrate.

But for many in California’s legal cannabis industry, there’s little cause for revelry most days, according to experts who say high taxes, burdensome regulations and illegal sales are crushing entrepreneurs’ dreams.

RELATED: How 4/20 grew from humble roots to marijuana’s high holiday

“I get calls every week from mom-and-pop operators that were excited about legal cannabis, that invested their life savings into doing something they were passionate about and doing it legally,” said Jason Piazza, director of real estate for WeCann, a Santa Ana cannabis business consulting firm.

Slang for cannabis smoking, especially at 4:20 p.m., 420’s origin is the subject of several theories. It’s a day when cannabis users gather and smoke the drug, often in public places.

Williamsburg’s first legal recreational weed dispensary opened its doors to customers on Friday, the eighth licensed store now open in Kings County — and just in time for 4/20.

Hii NYC, located at 152 Bedford Ave., is owned by Brooklynite Peter Beznos who said at the April 19 grand opening that his main hope for the store is to be able to educate the local community on safe and legal weed use, aiming to be a “safe haven” among the myriad of illegal vendors across the neighborhood and city.

“This is a state sanctioned dispensary and all of these are licensed providers, everything is grown and processed here in New York state,” said Beznos. “If it’s not legal, you just don’t know what you’re getting. Everything at our store is pre-packaged by the company, you have the company’s phone number on the back, you have somebody who’s actually answering for the product.”

New Pot Shop in Boston, Massachusetts

There’s a new pot shop in Boston’s South End called “Rebelle.”  The owner, Charlotte Hanna, wants to focus on making people feel healthy and well, rather than getting them high like traditional pot is known for (although she’s not opposed to that, either).

I got a chance to talk to Charlotte about the shop, and how it’s been described as “an alternative flower shop.”  Charlotte said that’s probably because the neighborhood that the place is in used to be the city’s Flower district.  The whole area has been developed into a big bio-tech campus, with other shops included.  The warehouse where the dispensary is located is the same area as the last standing flower wholesaler in the neighborhood.  You can’t go into Rebelle and buy a dozen roses. However, Charlotte said she is selling a different kind of flower.

Massachusetts Customers Said Edibles Put Them to Sleep

Customers were coming in saying that the edibles they were taking made them feel sleepy.  Charlotte was telling me about an edible she’s developed with green tea, that won’t put you to sleep.  There’s another product that she has called THCV, which she’s super excited to bring to market as well.
