Understanding Ohio’s new recreational marijuana laws: The legal ways to acquire cannabis – WKRC TV Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – While Ohioans wait for the legislature to figure out any changes to the state’s recreational marijuana program, the question in the meantime is what are people who want to enjoy recreational pot supposed to do?

Ohio has three legal ways to get marijuana. Medical, which has been around for years, and you need a doctor to say you need the cannabis. There’s also home grow and adult use.

Local 12 spoke with defense attorney Joe Suhre about staying legal under Ohio’s new law.

Suhre said home grow is only for personal use. You can’t sell it or even give it away.

“No neighborhood parties where you go down to your friend’s house, you know, who’s got six plants growing to be able to get some from him,” Surhre said.

The law defines adult use. The law says you must be 21 to use recreational cannabis.

“Adult use marijuana statutorily means marijuana that’s been purchased through a dispensary in Ohio. I would presume that there’s going to be testing and packaging that’s going to be involved in that, and that’s distinguished from just your regular marijuana,” Suhre said.

The key there is that it must be purchased through a dispensary in Ohio.

Dispensaries prepare for future of marijuana sales in Ohio – WDTN.com

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The first day of Issue 2’s legalization is a bittersweet day for dispensaries.

Though it is now legal for adults 21+ to possess marijuana, no medical dispensary can legally make recreational sales.

Ohio Senate approves HB 86, House to consider

Recreational marijuana sales will be managed by the newly established Cannabis Control Division which will regulate the sale of non-medical cannabis in Ohio. This new division still has to iron out details on licensing and processes for dispensaries to have the legal ability to sell.

Those with medical cards cannot purchase recreational cannabis from dispensaries and will still follow rules in place by the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program (OMMCP).

Recreational marijuana is now legal in Ohio. What happens next?

Local dispensaries say they have been preparing for an increase in business by adding staff, products, and security for when it becomes legal to sell recreationally.

Tracey McMillin, chief operating officer of Pure Ohio Wellness feels the industry will only explode once recreational use is fully in place.

“I think it will do like it’s done in other states. And I think
